60 inmates refuse orders, prompting lockdown at NC prison

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — Alexander Correctional Institution is under lockdown after inmates refused to return to their cells Wednesday afternoon.

The prison emergency response team went to the prison after 60 inmates refused to return to their cells from a recreation yard.

One detention officer was treated for injuries after being beaten up before the dispute at the facility in Alexander County.

A spokesman for the prison says the inmates returned to their cells three hours later after more officers arrived at the prison.
