RALEIGH — Voting rights advocates are suing North Carolina election officials over new rules about mail-in ballots.
The State Alliance for Retired Americans and other advocacy groups are asking a federal judge to pause the rules that make it easier to disqualify mail-in ballots over technicalities.
Those groups say the rules were rushed and violate the Voting Rights Act.
The State Board of Elections declined to comment on the lawsuit.
North Carolina has already sent out mail-in ballots for the Nov. 3 midterm election.
