Army captain charged in 2 sexual assaults at NC State was in Sigma Nu frat

RALEIGH, N.C. — An active-duty U.S. Army captain has been charged in two sexual assault cases at North Carolina State University from 2019.

One of the assault cases may be linked to the Sigma Nu fraternity that is now under criminal investigation. Officials say his case is not tied to the current investigation.

NC State police arrested 27-year-old Michael Kranzburg on Tuesday, according to WRAL. He is charged with kidnapping, assault by strangulation, forcible sex offense and sexual battery.

On Wednesday, a judge ordered him held without bond at the Wake County Detention Center.

Kranzburg was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity, the same fraternity that is currently being investigated for hazing allegations. WRAL reported Kranzburg’s address in records from one of the cases matched the address of the fraternity house.

Channel 9 first reported last month that NC State is investigating the fraternity. Details of the incident that prompted the investigation haven’t been released, but Sigma Nu’s national chapter says it suspended NC State’s chapter activities.
