Arrest made in Mint Hill assisted living sex assault, police say

MINT HILL, N.C. — Mint Hill police have made an arrest in connection to a sexual assault of an 86-year-old woman at an assisted living facility.

Police arrested Willie Shaw Jr., 43, and charged him with first-degree sex offense.

Shaw was an employee at Lawyers Glen Retirement Living Center when the incident took place, police said.

The attorney representing the family of the victim told Eyewitness News that staff at the Lawyer's Glen Nursing Home sent her to the hospital on May 14 with what appeared to be internal bleeding.

But when she got to the hospital in Matthews, doctors found evidence that she'd been assaulted.

The woman died two days later in the hospital, police said.

Shaw is being transported to the Mecklenburg County jail.
