BOONE, N.C. — Police tracked down a man who they said tried to set fire to a building that has been in Boone for generations, the Daniel Boone Inn.
Authorities said Peter Horn was caught on surveillance video last week carrying a possible container and then seconds later there is a flash from the fire.
Officers arrested Horn on Monday.
“There wasn’t any damage,” Horn said to Channel 9’s Dave Faherty as we was taken into custody.
Jerry and Nancy Green, who have gone to the restaurant dozens of times since they were in college, said they can’t believe some tried to set it on fire.
“Crazy people, there are crazy people in this world,” Jerry Green said.
“It’s a landmark institution for Boone so it would be a huge loss,” Nancy Green added.
There was very little damage done to the building and the fire didn’t impact business this past weekend.
Horn is charged with felonious burning of a building.
