Family: 15-year-old found dead was 'perfect son and brother'

Mooresville police said preliminary autopsy results show no physical cause of death for Aaron Willis.

The department now has to wait on final autopsy and toxicology results.

"He always was just a humble kid," said Pastor Craig Seaford, from Faith Baptist Church.

Seaford knew the 15-year-old his whole life, Willis' family is a part of his church.

"He loved his family," said Pastor Seaford.

Police said Willis' own parents found him dead, off a trail, behind homes on Montibello Drive.

They thought he was spending the night with one of his friends but didn't hear from him the next day.

"He didn't come home the next day they started asking and found out some of the students like to hang out on a certain walking trail in the neighborhood," said Capt. Joe Cooke.

Willis' family did not want to speak on camera but released a statement, saying, "Aaron was a Christian boy who attended Faith Baptist Church in Mooresville, N.C. Aaron was an athlete who loved to play basketball, baseball and lift weights at the local YMCA. Aaron always had a smile on his face and loved his Mama. He was the perfect son and brother. He was also a wonderful grandson, nephew and most recently an uncle. He loved his nephew Mason."

Police said they found no apparent cause of death during the investigation, so they have to wait for the final autopsy, with toxicology results, to come back.

Unitil then, Cooke said any speculation about what caused Willis' death is just that.

Pastor Seaford hopes those when knew Willis will cherish the moments they had.

"I hope they'll consider what a blessing they had for 15 years," he said.

Police tell Channel 9 they are speaking with some of Willis' friends, trying to learn more information as well as they wait on the test results.
