ROCK HILL, N.C. — Rock Hill’s Kaiden Watkins is quite literally doing it all these days while leaving his own mark.

On game day, you can find Watkins in the 5 jersey, which falls in line with a family tradition. He told Channel 9’s DaShawn Brown his sister wore the jersey number when she played volleyball at the same school. Then his uncle, former NFL linebacker Gerald Dixon, wore the number 5 so well that Rock Hill retired it, until his nephew called.

“It wasn’t really much to it. I just called him and asked him could I wear it,” Watkins said, “He said you’d be the last person ever wear it. I’ve just got to represent it well.”
Kaiden Watkins is still very much holding it down at corner, but he’s also stepped up to play quarterback. He says it’s not what he had in mind when the season started but he accepted the call.
“I kind of knew I’d get some reps of quarterback just off of packages,” Watkins said, “Coach using me as a gadget guy. When I got to middle school, that’s when I made the position change to cornerback. Ever since I started, quarterback was my first position. So it’s natural to me.”
Now that you’ve officially met each of our Bigg 22 Finalist, you have now through the weekend to get those votes in.
Voting closes Monday, Oct. 26 at 10 a.m.
