Huntersville Police Department

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — A renowned NASCAR agent and owner of a sports agency is being held on no bond after Huntersville police say he nearly hit a police officer three times.

Rod Moskowitz is charged with assault with a deadly weapon of a government official. Moskowitz is the owner of PROSPORT Management and is listed as being in charge of the racing division.

According to the website, PROSPORT Management clients include Denny Hamlin, Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, Bubba Wallace, William Byron, Tyler Reddick and Corey Heim.

Channel 9 obtained an affidavit that says this all stems from a civil disturbance on Cramur Drive in Huntersville on Thursday. The affidavit says while officers were on scene, they encountered Moskowitz driving an orange Toyota Sequoia in an “aggressive and reckless” manner. The affidavit says Moskowitz hit a ditch and then reversed into the driveway of the home on Cramur Drive. Officers attempted to get Moskowitz to stop his car. An officer waved his hands “in an unobstructed view of Rod” and hit his car with his hand in an attempt to get him to stop driving aggressively, according to the affidavit. The affidavit says that officer had to step out of the way three times to avoid being hit by Moskowitz. Huntersville police were able to get him out of the vehicle and took him into custody.

A first appearance for Moskowitz is scheduled for Friday morning where a judge may set a bond and terms of release.

A message to Huntersville Police was not immediately returned.

Channel 9 has reached out to PROSPORT Management for comment.
