Brooklyn Village construction to start in the fall

CHARLOTTE — After years of waiting, Brooklyn Village construction will kick off this fall. Mecklenburg County says officials completed the sale of the first phase of the project with BK Partners LLC for $10.3 million. The first phase is 5.7 acres and consists of the Bob Walton Plaza building and the adjacent parking lot.

The first phase of the project includes apartments, office space, and retail.

Later, development will continue at the site of the former Board of Education building and Marshall Park. Marshall Park will be demolished. Past attempts by county leaders to exclude the property from the future of Brooklyn Village have been unsuccessful.

Marshall Park redevelopment is expected to occur in phase two of the project. The land is expanded to be sold in the next five to eight years depending on market conditions.
