Bryce Young’s father shares setbacks, lessons for parents in new book

CHARLOTTE — A father’s drive to see his son succeed nearly cost him their relationship.

In his new book, Growing Up Young, Craig Young reveals intimate details from his own childhood that later influenced his parenting decisions with his son, Panthers quarterback Bryce Young.

“There’s a passage in the book where Julie (Young) tells me that Bryce doesn’t want to be around me anymore,” Craig Young said.

“That hurt me to my core because at the end of the day, all I wanted was this family and this great relationship with my son. So, I thought about it, and I was like, you know what? My relationship with him is more important to me than his potential or what I perceived to be his potential. And if this football thing … doesn’t work out, but I still have a great relationship with him, I don’t care.”

>>> In the attached video, Craig Young sat down for a revealing conversation with Channel 9 sports reporter DaShawn Brown, detailing changes he made to restore their relationship.
