Rape charges dropped against mentally challenged man

GASTONIA, N.C. — All charges against a man accused of overpowering and raping a woman have been dropped.

A judge decided to drop the charges against Darrell Gore because he is mentally challenged and cannot understand the judicial process.

Gore's accuser said he broke into her home in 2009.

She fired a shot at him and used a knife, but Gore managed to overpower her.

Gore is at a psychiatric hospital in Morganton.
