CHARLOTTE — Charlotte Douglas International Airport plans to spend more than $1 billion over the next seven years to add 12 to 16 gates — the first hint of the airport’s plans beyond a $4 billion, 10-year expansion and renovation wrapping up in 2027.
Jack Christine, CLT’s chief infrastructure officer, shared a sneak peek Thursday of improvements and additions during a presentation to local tourism leaders. The $4 billion series of projects scheduled to finish next year, known as Destination CLT, has included a $600 million makeover of the main terminal lobby and a billion-dollar fourth parallel runway expected to open in September 2027.
