CHARLOTTE — Charlotte City Council quietly approved a pay raise for Charlotte City Manager Marcus Jones in a closed session, The Charlotte Observer confirmed Monday.

A city spokesperson said the raise was approved in August.

The 2.5% raise puts Jones’ salary at about $511,690.

The latest pay raise is smaller than past years, but still represents an increase of more than $12,000 to his base salary.

Attorneys have previously told The Observer that private pay raise votes likely violate the state’s open meeting laws. The mayor typically announces the raises at the next public meeting but had not done so as of Monday.
