CHARLOTTE — Charlotte City Council is preparing to crack down on drivers who park in a way that blocks sidewalks.

City leaders will vote Monday on an ordinance change that would make it clear vehicles cannot obstruct a sidewalk, including when a car parked in a driveway extends into the pedestrian path.

The city says blocked sidewalks can create ADA violations by preventing people with disabilities from safely using the sidewalk.

The proposed change would clarify the city’s rules and give officials a clearer way to enforce them.
