CHARLOTTE — Charlotte City Council is expected to receive an update Monday on the proposed I-77 South toll lanes project, which would add toll lanes from Uptown Charlotte to the South Carolina line. State transportation officials say a proposed $300 million community benefits package would move forward regardless of Charlotte’s vote, while several local governments remain undecided ahead of key votes later this month.
The money could help fund projects such as new greenspace, housing development near impacted neighborhoods, and efforts to address food deserts.
Commissioners in the town of Davidson plan to vote on the project on Sept. 22.
Here is where cities and towns currently stand on their support for the project:
- Davidson, Mint Hill and Charlotte remain undecided.
- The Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization will take a final vote on Sept. 23.
