Charlotte Fire Department battalion chief charged with DWI

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Fire Department is investigating one of its battalion chiefs after he was charged with a DWI.

Officials said Battalion Chief Michael Gerin is currently under investigation, and it’s considered a personnel matter.

The department did not say when the incident happened, or release any other details.

Statement from Fire Chief Reginald Johnson:

“Firefighters with the Charlotte-Fire Department are expected to conduct themselves to the highest professional standards on and off duty and will be held accountable when they fail to do so. At no time will this department tolerate behavior that violates the law or our community’s trust.”

According to officials, Gerin has been placed on administrative leave. He has been with the department since 2001.
