Charlotte Fire Department vehicle responding to call involved in crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte Fire Department vehicle was involved in a crash Tuesday afternoon at Old Pineville and Tyvola roads in Charlotte.

Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the scene where the department vehicle was overturned after colliding with another vehicle.

The fire department said three people in its SUV were injured and taken to a hospital to be checked out.

The department's SUV collided with another SUV, which sustained damage to its front end. The driver of the other SUV was uninjured.

Officials said the fire department vehicle was on its way to a fire call on Park Road at teh time of the crash.

A witness told Channel 9 he saw the fire vehicle with its red lights and siren going, and as it went through a red light, it crashed into the SUV which had stopped in the intersection.

“The fire marshal pretty much crossed over and didn't really wait to see if any other cars were coming across but the lady stopped directly so he really couldn't go anywhere and he ran directly into her,” Richard Isom said.

Police are investigating the wreck.
