CHARLOTTE — The 25th annual Charlotte Labor Day Parade brought workers and their families to Tryon Street on Monday.
For many, it was a chance to show the next generation who keeps this community moving.
The parade kicked off at 11 from Ninth Street, traveling through the square, before ending at Third Street.
Ironworkers, teamsters, service employees and theater workers were among the local labor groups taking part in this year’s parade. The event honored the hardships and accomplishments of American workers.
Among the union banners, uniforms and floats were parents who told Channel 9’s Miana Massey that they were looking to pass down their pride to their children.
“I brought my family i think its important for them to see all the people out there that work hard,” Union member Jason Wilkes said.
“To have the children see the working class participate in something of this magnitude it means a lot, we move the city we move the county this is what we do,” Union member Gia Lockhart said.
Organizers say Labor Day is about more than just a day off, it’s about recognizing the workers who helped build this country and keep our communities moving.
