Charlotte LGBTQIA Community, allies hold emergency meeting in response to NC law proposals

CHARLOTTE — In response to new law proposals for the state of North Carolina, members of the LGBTQIA community, along with their allies, held an emergency meeting in the Queen City on Saturday.

Hundreds gathered in southwest Charlotte to discuss the proposed laws surrounding drag shows and transgender student-athletes and how they would help the communities impacted by those bills move forward.

In North Carolina, both the state house and senate have passed similar bills that prevent transgender girls from playing on the women’s team in school. An additional bill was filed just this week that would make it illegal to have drag shows in public or in an area where kids are; legislation has labeled drag shows as adult live entertainment.

The emergency meeting also touched on other everyday issues faced by the LGBTQIA community.
