25-year-old man arrested, charged in deadly shooting at east Charlotte gas station

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police arrested and charged Jonathan Tyrese Best-Edmonds, 25, who is accused of shooting and killing another man at a gas station in east Charlotte late Saturday night.

The shooting happened just after 9:30 p.m. at a BP gas station at the corner of Milton Road and East W.T. Harris Boulevard.

When officers got to the gas station, they found 52-year-old Allen Smith suffering from a gunshot wound inside a car. Officials said first responders tried to perform CPR, but he died from his injuries.

Police said an argument at the gas station led to the violence. Now, detectives are looking through surveillance video and talking to witnesses to try and track the gunman down.

Best-Edmonds was charged with murder.
