CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police said a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer was riding on a dual-sport motorcycle when he was hit by another vehicle in north Charlotte Friday morning.
North Graham Street between Plymouth Avenue and Wolfberry Street was shut down in both directions as police investigated the accident.
Investigators said the officer was thrown from the bike and taken to the hospital for treatment.
Officials said he is expected to be OK.
Police said a driver was trying to pull onto Kenswick Avenue and make a left on North Graham Street.
There was a tractor-trailer parked near the intersection in the right lane on North Graham Street.
Police said the officer was driving in the left lane, and the driver of the car said she didn’t see him coming from behind the truck, and that’s when she hit him.
Police said the officer was coming from court and was headed back to his division office when the crash happened.
At last check, the officer was in surgery.
"I’m sure when he put the uniform on and came to court this morning, he didn’t anticipate spending lunchtime in the hospital,” Lt. Brad Koch, with CMPD, said. “It’s tough. You just want every time we all go to work, just like you guys, everybody wants to go home at the end of the day.”
The driver of the car, Lamonda Sloan, was charged with driving while license revoked, fictitious registration plate, no liability insurance, failure to yield right-of-way and unsafe movement.
