Charlotte teen represents US in international powerlifting competition

CHARLOTTE — One Charlotte teen is mastering strength at just 16 years old, and his hard work is now taking him to the world stage.

George Cunningham is currently ranked as the third strongest junior powerlifter in the world.

He will compete in the International Powerlifting Federation Sub-Junior World Championships in South Africa later this month.

Cunningham says the only person he’s worried about beating is himself.

“I’m just gonna push myself to the limit,” he said. “I’m competing against gravity, so that’s my number one rival.”

Cunningham will compete on Aug. 18. The competition will be live streamed on YouTube, starting at 3 p.m.
