Chef brings Italian roots to new restaurant in South End

Lady Funari (Southwick Architecture + Interiors)

CHARLOTTE — This modern pasta bar and caffé coming to South End has a name — and it’s personal to chef Vince Giancarlo.

Lady Funari is set to debut this spring at 222 E. Bland St. The name is a nod to Giancarlo’s grandmother, Claire Theresa Funari.

“She was the matriarch of a very strong Italian family, a true madrina. She’s the reason I fell in love with food, cooking and pasta,” he says.

Lady Funari is the latest concept by B-Side Group. It takes the place of Futo Buta, which closed in 2024 following the death of chef Michael Shortino.

Giancarlo, culinary director for B-Side Hospitality, says his “Mommom” shaped his approach to cooking and hospitality. This concept is a return to his roots and a refinement of his pasta program.
