MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Channel 9 has confirmed that the city of Mooresville has named acting police chief Ron Campurciani to the job permanently.

Former chief Damon Williams resigned last month following an investigation into a hostile work environment. The results of that investigation have not been released.

Campurciani was named acting chief last June, but his contract ended on Tuesday. A city spokesman said an internal memo went out to staff Tuesday night naming Campurciani chief of police.

He has 34 years of experience, including serving as the former chief of police in West Springfield, Massachusetts.

Campurciani sent the following message to staff Tuesday evening:

First I want to thank all of you for your support over the past 6 months. It truly has been the honor of my lifetime to have spent these past months with all of you. Tonight after careful consideration I have accepted the offer by the Town Manager to move forward as your permanent Chief.

I look forward to working with all of you as we move this department forward.

Thank you.
