CMPD: $9,000 reward in 2009 cold-case homicide

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Investigators with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are hoping thousands of dollars in reward money will help them solve a cold case murder investigation.

Ja'Ron McGill, 19, was shot to death on Colby Road in East Charlotte in August 2009.

Police say he was leaving his girlfriend's house and walking home.

On Tuesday, police called a news conference with McGill's family to discuss the case and urge residents to come forward with any information.

McGill's family says the pain over the loss of their child has been unbearable.

"Sometimes, people just don't want to talk. It's been 5 1/2 years. Somebody knows something out there," says James McGill, Ja'Ron's father.

Police and the community are offering a $9,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
