CMPD: Woman robbed at gunpoint at Ballantyne Bank of America ATM

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after they said a woman was robbed at gunpoint at an ATM in Ballantyne Tuesday night.

Channel 9 checked and found that the latest crime is the third armed robbery in the area in the past two months.

The crimes have happened around the Johnston Road and Ballantyne Commons Parkway area, and Channel 9 crews were there overnight as police investigated the most recent robbery, which took place on Conlan Circle.

Officers could be seen at a drive-up Bank of America ATM.

Police said the 22-year-old woman was approached by a masked man with a gun around 11 p.m. They said the man demanded her money, her cell phone and the keys to her car.

Police said they found her keys and cell phone nearby. They said their investigation is making some progress.

“We've got some pretty good leads and some information we are working on as we speak,” Rob Tufano, with CMPD, said. “Thankfully she's OK.”

Wednesday’s robbery isn’t the only recent crime Eyewitness News has reported on in the area.

In May, Channel 9 spoke with the victim of a carjacking, which also took place in the parking lot of a bank.

The girl said she was there studying early in the morning before her shift at Panera when a man pointed a gun at her and told her to get out of her car. He took her Toyota and everything in it, including her house key, phone, and wallet.

Last week, at the same Bank of America where Wednesday’s robbery took place, a man depositing money for a local restaurant said a man robbed him at gunpoint.

Police said they have not made arrests in any of these cases, and are concerned about the level of violence in the area.

Police said they don't know if the crimes are related.

They hope surveillance cameras can help them track down the suspect and car in this most recent case.
