CMPD Crisis Response Team helps homeless with mental health challenges

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — People who live on the streets of Charlotte have no place to call home and some are struggling with mental health challenges.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has a team that travels with a clinician, and they have a goal to try to help those who are struggling.

There are eight officers and six Master level mental health clinicians who are part of the team that started back in April.

"I have seen successes for people that are in crisis when we are able to get them connected to services," CMPD Crisis Response Team Officer William Secondi said.

In the video at the top of this web page, police and counselors walked the city’s streets Tuesday night trying to lend a helping hand.
