CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a fatal crash in southwest Charlotte Saturday morning.
It occurred around 5:30 a.m. on Steele Creek Road near Shopton Road.
At the scene, police said they found an overturned white 2012 Honda Accord off the roadway with extensive damage.
The driver of the Honda, 31-year-old Damonta Stephane Alexander, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
An initial investigation indicates Alexander was speeding on Steele Creek Road when he ran off the right side of the roadway.
Alexander’s vehicle then struck a brick sign, which caused the vehicle to overturn. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to police.
