Man charged with murder after deadly east Charlotte shooting, police say

CHARLOTTE — A man has been arrested for shooting and killing a 22-year-old in east Charlotte Friday morning, police said.

Officers responded to the shooting scene just after 5 a.m. at an apartment complex on Sharon Pointe Road near Cagle Avenue.

According to MEDIC, two people were initially taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police confirmed one victim later died at the hospital. On Friday afternoon, CMPD identified the victim as Markus Petty, 22.

On Monday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested and charged Jeremiah Reed, 20, with murder.

Detectives believe the victims and suspect knew each other.

A Channel 9 crew at the scene said police had blocked off the front entrance of the apartment complex for several hours. Police cars and crime scene tape could also be seen in the parking lot.
