Mother charged with murder in 7-month-old's death faces judge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 20-year-old woman charged with murder in the death of her 7-month-old daughter, Jade, appeared in front of a judge Tuesday.

Officers went to a home on Galena View Drive off West Sugar Creek Road at 4:55 a.m. Monday where first responders tried to save the life the infant, Jade Williams.

Jade's mother, Raeonna Allen Watson, was interviewed at police headquarters and has been charged with murder.

The infant was pronounced dead at Atrium Health.

"A mother who murders a kid, I don't even know the word for it," neighbor Michael Sims said.

Police said she was charged as a result of information gathered during the interview and investigations at the hospital and the home where Jade was found.

Police have not said what caused the baby's death.

No further information has been released.
