CORNELIUS, N.C. — In a statement from CMS, officials said a sixth-grader at Bailey Middle School passed away Thursday night.
Counselors were at the school Friday to support students and staff.
CMS officials identified the student as Sophia Tyburski and said she had flu-like symptoms while at school last Monday.
As an extra precaution, CMS officials have been working with the Health Department and said there is no public health risk.
Officials said to keep the family in your thoughts.
The school is on Bailey Road in Cornelius.
