CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Mecklenburg School Board is rejecting Superintendent Crystal Hill’s proposed budget.

Tuesday night, the board voted 8 to 1 to ask the superintendent to come up with a new spending plan. She proposed a $2.1 billion budget.

Hill appeared surprised by the move and asked for clarity on why it was happening.

The board did not publicly share specifics. CMS has until May 15 to pass a budget.
