Coffee shop breaking barriers for those with disabilities opens in South End

CHARLOTTE — There’s a new coffee shop in Charlotte’s South End neighborhood aiming to hire people with disabilities and learning challenges.

Bitty and Beau’s hosted its grand opening on Saturday at its new spot on Camden Road.

Most of the workers at the coffee shop have intellectual or developmental disabilities.

Not only are the employees serving up a good cup of coffee, they’re also serving up endless possibilities.

“That’s our ultimate goal,” said Amie Cennamo, owner of the coffee shop. “To show Charlotte what our employees are capable of.”
