HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — A chalkboard sign just inside the door of Murto Made Distillery lists two goals: Sell Vodka, Make Whiskey.
For Jon Murto, it’s a tongue-in-cheek reminder of just how far the fledgling business has come. The micro-distillery’s products are now on the shelves at ABC stores and served in a growing number of restaurants, bars, and nightclubs.
Murto, head distiller, and his brother-in-law, Curt Van Duren, are behind that venture — the first of its kind in Huntersville.
Murto Made is tucked into a 3,200-square-foot space at 11941 Ramah Church Road, an industrial park setting. But the tasting room transports visitors with its deep brown walls, a tufted velvet sofa and matching wingback chairs and black-and-white photos on the wall.
