CHARLOTTE — Zachary Monroe, 18, and a juvenile were arrested and charged with murder Wednesday in the shooting death of 19-year-old Kaleb Hagins, CMPD said.
Hagins was fatally shot on June 24 inside a car near Johnson and Wales before being driven to the transit center.
The two suspects were captured in Monroe with assistance from Belmont police and the SBI, CMPD said.
Family and friends of the 19-year-old held a candlelight vigil about a week after the murder to honor him.
The vigil was put together by Mothers of Murdered Offspring and was held at Camp Greene Park.
There were songs and prayers to honor Hagins’ life.
“I’m in and out one minute. I’m OK and the next minute I’m just so torn up. It seems like everything is a trigger for me. If I see a young man or something that he liked, it just brings so much sadness to my heart because it was so senseless how he passed away,” Erika Morrison, Hagins’ aunt, said.
Hagins’ 12-year-old brother Noel Curry also attended the vigil.
