Cornelius K-9 Faro receives donated bullet and stab-protective vest

CORNELIUS, N.C. — The Cornelius Police Department announced that K-9 Faro has received a bullet- and stab-protective vest. The armor was provided through a charitable donation from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

Each protective vest provided by the organization is valued at $1,800. K-9 Faro’s vest includes custom embroidery reading, “In Memory of Don Fike.”

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provides protective equipment to law enforcement dogs across the country. To qualify for the program, dogs must be at least 20 months old, actively employed and certified with a law enforcement or related agency. K-9s with expired vests are also eligible for the program.

An estimated 30,000 law enforcement K-9s are currently serving throughout the United States.
