Crews clean up Southpark area overnight

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Strong storms took down trees and cut power to many in the Southpark area Wednesday evening.

More than 800 power outages remain in Mecklenburg County. Duke Energy is working to restore power to those homes and businesses.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg crews were out overnight cleaning up the mess left from the storms. Wind and rain toppled a tree on Glenkirk Road, but crews cut it apart and moved it out of the roadway before dawn.

Barclay Downs Road also flooded during the storms. The road is clear now.

Several traffic signals went out during the storms, but power has been restored to all of those so there should not be a problem for commuters.
