Crews find body of man last seen jumping off boat in Lake Norman

LAKE NORMAN — Search teams have found the body of a missing swimmer Saturday morning, according to NC Wildlife officials. He was found in Lake Norman near Point of View Drive.

Crews have been searching for him for almost a week.

Crews responded to a drowning call Sunday at around 2:30 p.m. near the Highway 150 bridge, which is on the Catawaba-Iredell County line.

Officials said they were looking for a man in his 20s.

He was on a boat with friends when he jumped off without wearing a life jacket and never resurfaced.

Officials said they believe alcohol was a factor in the incident.

North Carolina Wildlife officials and Mooresville Fire responded to the scene. Crews were forced to stop the search at one point due to rain, but they started back Monday morning.

“It has been busy this summer on the lake. Unfortunately, we had a few incidents earlier in the summer. You know again we stress wearing your life jackets. But it has been busy this summer,” Matthew Lee with NC Wildlife said.
