YORK COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities said rescue crews have recovered the body of Shi Li Zheng, 41, who drowned in the Catawba River in York County Sunday evening.
Officials were called to the scene at the Catawba River Access on New Gray Rock Road near Lake Wylie.
Zheng was kayaking with family members. He went into the water to assist someone and did not resource, the York County coroner said.
The York County Sheriff’s Office dive team, Department of Natural Resources and the Tega Cay Fire Department and police responded to the scene.
The Fort Mill Dam access was closed during the search, authorities said.
