CHARLOTTE — Charlotte firefighters responded to a damaged natural gas line at the intersection of S Tryon Street and W Bland Street on Saturday.
Crews are currently monitoring the site as a precaution, while Piedmont Natural Gas has been notified and is currently on the way to the scene.
CMPD has closed the intersection and is advising drivers to avoid the area.
Residents and businesses in the area may notice the smell of natural gas. Residents are being asked not to call 911 solely to report the odor connected to this incident. Charlotte Fire is aware of the situation, and the 911 communications center is receiving a high volume of calls related to this incident.
Charlotte Fire says Piedmont Gas will handle the gas line repairs and provide additional information.
The cause of the damaged gas line has not yet been released.
