COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Republican runoff for South Carolina’s U.S. Senate seat is set, with Senator Darline Graham and Congressman Ralph Norman advancing from a crowded 10-candidate special primary.
Graham finished first with about 33% of the vote, while Norman took roughly 24%.
Because neither candidate received the majority needed to win the nomination outright, Graham and Norman will face each other again in a Republican runoff on August 25.
The winner will become the GOP nominee and advance to the November general election against Democrat Annie Andrews.
Graham, the sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham, was appointed to temporarily fill his Senate seat following his death and entered the primary with former President Donald Trump’s endorsement.
Norman, a longtime conservative congressman, secured the second-place finish and will now try to build on his support heading into the runoff.
