Dashcam video shows Tesla Autopilot crash that almost killed two NC deputies

NASH COUNTY, N.C. — A distracted Tesla driver narrowly missed a serious crash with Nash County Sheriff’s Office deputies on U.S. Highway 65, according to footage from the scene.

Recently released video from WRAL in Raleigh shows the 2020 crash. Deputies were stopped on the side of the road assisting with a wreck when a Tesla plowed into their cruisers.

The vehicles rolled in an out-of-control ‘domino effect’ last August and hit a deputy standing on the roadside, the video shows.

Fortunately, both deputies were OK.

WRAL reported the driver was Devainder Goli, a Raleigh doctor.

A police report from the crash said Goli was using the vehicle’s Autopilot setting and watching a movie on his cell phone when the collision occurred. The driver is also accused of lying to police. He faces several charges.

Tesla said its Autopilot feature requires driver supervision and is not a replacement for a driver.
