CHARLOTTE — The family of a 52-year-old truck driver shot and killed in Steele Creek is seeking answers as police have not announced any arrests or released a motive in the case.
Abdullah Hamid died Oct. 24 following a shooting on Simril Court.
Hamid’s family members said they have been waiting for updates from investigators regarding who shot him and why.
Tyrone Mosley, Hamid’s brother, expressed frustration over the slow progress of the investigation.
Mosley recalled learning about the incident after seeing the address on his phone. “With him gone, that hurts me because I just picture all the happy times,” Mosley said. “As soon as I opened that phone, I saw that address. I just knew something bad had happened to him.”
Mosley acknowledged that law enforcement is actively working the case, but said waiting for information remains difficult for the family.
“I respect it’s an ongoing investigation,” Mosley said. “‘Is it frustrating for you to hear that?’ Oh yeah, as soon as you hear it and you get the information. You think it’s something you’re gonna find out the next day, what happened, who did this or why it happened, but it ain’t like that.”
He added that “as his brother and family members, everybody wants to know right then and there what happened. What’s going on?”
The shooting occurred amid potential marital issues. Court records show a magistrate issued a criminal summons against Hamid’s wife on Oct. 25 for allegedly damaging his front door and a Ring doorbell camera at his property on Spy Glass Place back in August.
Court documents also state that on Oct. 23, Hamid allegedly accused his wife of waving and pointing a gun at him out of a window at the Simril Court property.
Hamid was killed at the Simril Court location the day after that alleged incident. Mosley said considering the circumstances made him question why his brother returned to the location.
“After I started putting pieces together, that was the first thing I thought, damn, why would he go back over there, you know,” Mosley said.
