Two women found shot inside Burke County home; man arrested

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies have charged a man accused of shooting two women at a home in Burke County Sunday morning.

Tykevious Owan Thomas, 27, was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury.

The shooting happened around 7 a.m. at a house on Lostkey Drive in Connelly Springs, south of Morganton.

Burke County deputies said they got a call from the Catawba County Sheriff's Office with information from a 911 caller saying a home had been broken into. Dispatchers said they also heard multiple gunshots in the background while on the phone with the caller.

Officials said when Burke County deputies got to the home, they found two women with gunshot wounds. They were both taken to the hospital.

Deputies said one of the victims was treated and released. The other is still hospitalized in critical condition.

Authorities have not said what led to the shooting. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations is on scene assisting deputies with their investigation.

Thomas is being held at the Burke/Catawba District Confinement Facility. His $500,000 secured bond was revoked.
