Man accused of stabbing mother to death arrested after standoff in Hickory

HICKORY, N.C. — A man accused of stabbing two people, including his own mother, has surrendered to police after barricading himself inside a Hickory home Monday morning, according to deputies.

Officials told Channel 9′s Dave Faherty they responded around 3 a.m. to a camper on 16th Street Dr. NE in northeast Hickory after a woman was stabbed.

When deputies got to the scene, they found Rebecca Hahn who told them her son, Billy Joe Hahn Jr., stabbed her. She was taken to the hospital where she died.

Around 9:15 a.m., deputies found the suspect’s car at a home about three miles away on 28th Street NE. Inside the car was another man who had been stabbed, identified as Kris Goodson.

He was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, officials said. Detectives said Billy Hahn stabbed Goodson while they were both inside the house.

Deputies said Billy Hahn then barricaded himself inside the home.

Dozens of officers surrounded the house, and the SWAT Team was called in to help as well. Officials used a megaphone to try to negotiate with Hahn for more than an hour.

Shortly before noon, police said Hahn surrendered and was taken into custody.

He has been charged with murder. Other charges are pending.

Deputies told Channel 9 they had to be very cautious before going into the home because of the conditions inside.

“The way the house is situated with all the clutter, it wasn’t a safe environment to make a fast entry. We had to deliberately make our way in,” one deputy said.

Authorities have not said what led up to the stabbings.

No other information has been released.
