Police: 16-year-old killed, another man hurt in southwest Charlotte shooting

CHARLOTTE — A 16-year-old is dead and another man is hurt after a shooting in southwest Charlotte Tuesday night, according to a police report.

Officers responded at around 9 p.m. to an apartment complex on Branchview Drive near East Arrowood and Nations Ford roads.

At the scene, police found 16-year-old Jeferson Landaverde shot to death inside a vehicle. An 18-year-old who was in the vehicle was also found shot nearby. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to a police report, a person called 911 saying there was a crash on Branchview Drive. The caller also said there was a shootout.

Channel 9′s Ken Lemon spoke to witnesses who said the teen drove into the community, followed by another car. Then, they said the driver of the other vehicle got out and shot him.

A woman who lives at the apartment complex told Lemon that she heard the shots and ran outside. She said even after being shot, the teen driver made it around the parking lot, hit a truck and backed up before coming to a stop.

“(He) was very, very young,” she said. “The last words he said: ‘I got shot.’”

No arrests have been made.

Police have not released any additional information at this point.
