Police arrest 3rd person in connection with murder of teen in northeast Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police announced Sunday that they arrested a third person in connection to the murder Tuesday of a 19-year-old in northeast Charlotte.

Damion Lamont McDonald, 20, was arrested Saturday and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon

Earlier in the week, CMPD arrested a 19-year-old and a 17-year-old.

Officers responded shortly before 10 p.m. to a damage of property call along Farmington Ridge Parkway, near Interstate 485. When they got to the scene, police said they found a man down the street who had been shot.

That victim, identified as 19-year-old Eric Deese II, was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Friday, CMPD found and arrested Brian Adam Monroy, 19, for Deese’s murder. They also arrested a 17-year-old and charged him with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Channel 9 was at the scene as CMPD made the arrest.

Both teens are in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

“We’ve lost these kids along the way,” said Lisa Crawford, with Mothers of Murdered Offspring. “Somewhere we’ve lost them. Somewhere along the way, they didn’t value their lives or any of ours.”

Crawford has been trying to turn the tide of violence involving teenagers for years.

Charlotte has seen 71 homicides in 2021, which is well below last year’s total at this same time.

Crawford said that is still not encouraging.

“No, not encouraged one bit,” she said. “Not one bit, because we didn’t lose as many people as we lost last year. We still lost 70-plus people.”

Anyone with information about the crime should call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective. You can also leave information anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
