MOORESVILLE, N.C. — The dog walks with a limp, his narrow frame still skin and bones.
However, he has improved since a woman brought him to Randall Veterinary Hospital on Friday, after she found him wandering along Highway 801 in Moorseville.
"She got him in her car and realized he had an injured leg, a wound on his neck, was bleeding from his nose and was very malnourished," said Pam Dingler, a vet technician with the hospital.
The staff at the hospital realized the dog's injuries were worse than imagined.
"He has a bullet lodged in his neck and possibly one in his jaw. He has a fractured tooth and a broken hip," Dingler said.
In addition to being shot, it looks like the dog was hit by a car. The hospital is asking for anybody to come forward with information.
"We do not want people out here mistreating animals like this," Dingler said.
Dingler said they are doing everything they can to get him back to health and hopefully into a safe home.
"The first thing he did when he saw me was lick me with all of his wounds and his tail wagging. He was just wanting to please me. I think he was saying thank y'all for helping me out here," Dingler said.
