Downtown Kannapolis baseball stadium named Ballpark of the Year

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — A small-town baseball stadium in the Charlotte region scored a big recognition toward the end of 2022, with Ballpark Digest recognizing the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers’ home field as Ballpark of the Year.

The $52 million Atrium Health Ballpark was completed in 2020 — but, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Cannon Ballers didn’t play their first game at the facility in 2021. That created an opportunity for residents in the area to check out the park before its official debut.

“Even during Covid, people were able to walk around the park or bring their kids to the playground,” Andy Sandler, whose Temerity Baseball owns the Cannon Ballers as well as the Greensboro Grasshoppers, told the industry publication. “We had 150,000 people in the ballpark before we ever had a baseball game.”
