CHARLOTTE — A 67-year-old man is facing felony charges after police said he tried to rob two Charlotte banks just hours apart on Tuesday, police said.
Police identified the suspect as Anthony Watson, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said.
The first incident happened around 10:36 a.m. at a Wells Fargo at the corner of Sardis Road North and Monroe Road. Police said Watson entered the bank and demanded money but left without getting any.
Officers obtained a description of the suspect and identified Watson, prompting a department-wide BOLO.
About two hours later, at 12:37 p.m., officers responded to an armed robbery call at the Wells Fargo at 301 South Tryon Street in Uptown.
Police said an alleged armed suspect demanded money from a teller before leaving the bank. He got away with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect’s description matched Watson’s description from the Independence Division case.

With assistance from CMPD’s Real Time Crime Center, officers identified and apprehended Watson nearby.
Watson was taken into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with felony robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony common law robbery.
He is being held without bond.
